Appliance Factory & Mattress Kingdom is the 25th largest appliance dealer in the Nation, Colorado’s largest independently owned appliance retailer, and is growing fast in the Columbus market. CEO Chuck Ewing started the company in 1986 from his garage and grew it into 17 locations throughout Colorado and Ohio by carving a niche in a market typically held by big-box retailers.

Meet the Team

Hugh Tapson
Director of Sales and Operations

   Holding a BBA degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, Hugh has successfully completed various internal and external management training programs and has worked his way up the ladder over the past 24 years in various organizations. 

   Hugh has held positions as Director of Sales and Operations, Regional Procurement and Logistics Manager, Human Resources Training and Development Manager in large listed corporate retail and wholesale companies, namely: EDCON Pty Ltd., DAWN Manufacturing & Distribution Pty Ltd. "Wholesale Hardware Distributors", Metro Cash and Carry Wholesale Pty Ltd., and Techtronic Industries Pty Ltd. 

   Hugh grew up in Kwazulu Natal-Amanzimtoti and moved to Johannesburg, South Africa in the late seventies. He played rugby until the age of 34. He was selected to attend provincial (state) tryouts and received Honors (Letter) for rugby in 1982. Hugh moved to the USA in 2011. For fun, Hugh enjoys fishing, camping, hiking, and is an avid ice hockey supporter.

Dan Maez
Operations Manager

   Dan holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Marketing and Business Management from The Metropolitan State University of Denver. With more than 22 years of retail experience, he brings an extensive amount of knowledge about the industry. In June 2017, he joined Appliance Factory as Operations Manger where his responsibilities include overseeing the internal service department and assisting in the management of business operations.  

 

   Dan is a proud Colorado native and in his free time he enjoys visiting local breweries, working on his house, hiking, spending time with friends and family and finding the next best taco shop.

Chris McNees
Senior Project Manager

   Chris started with the company in June of 2016. During his time with the company, he has held multiple positions. He has worked his way up from delivery and installs to senior project manager. He is in charge of the day to day field operations.

   Chris is a father of 3 boys, ages 20, 17, and 7. They keep him very busy. When he has free time, he enjoys playing poker, online and in the casinos. He also likes to camp and fish with friends and family. 

David Miller
Account Manager

   David started with Appliance Factory Mattress Kingdom as a salesman in November  of  2011. During that time, he has worked in 3 different stores for the company. He was then promoted up to Store Manager. From there he moved into the Wholesale (Multifamily) Division where he brings over 30 years of customer service experience and 8 years of appliance industry knowledge to his customers. David puts 110% into every job he does to ensure his customers are completely satisfied.

   He was raised in Zephyrhills, Florida and went to Tampa Tech for computer programming. He moved to Colorado in 2007 from Arizona with his wife and 14 kids. Although has lived in Colorado for 14 years he still does not know how to ski.

Phillip Martinez
Account Manager

   Phil started his career in the military as a Cavalry Scout in the 10th Mountain Division. He later moved on to recruiting and eventually sales after separating from the service. He is currently in his last year at the University of Colorado Denver majoring in Software Engineering with a minor in Business Management. His last home was as a Personal Sales Representative for all of Northern Colorado at Comcast before joining us at Appliance Factory and he is very excited to continue to thrive and help you with all of your needs! 

Nick Kump
Account Manager

   Nick started with Appliance Factory in the Spring of 2017 as a Used Store Manager.  After having a Successful career driving sales in his store he was promoted to District Manager for the Used Appliance Department.  He successfully helped increased sales in all the stores as well as created a great working environment.  Nick joined the Wholesale Division in the Fall of 2018 as an Account Manager for Summit County.

   Nick moved to Colorado in 2009 from Orange County, New York to enjoy the great skiing, hiking and camping that Colorado has to offer.

Corena Holguin
Account Manager

   Corena has been with Appliance Factory for two years. During that time, she’s been able to collaborate with amazing team members and experienced immense professional growth. Her current focus is in the Multi-Family Wholesale Division.

 

   As a mother of three amazing kids and an active member in her community, life keeps Corena pretty busy. Free minutes for herself are spent gardening, enjoying local shopping, and (like a true Colorado-Native) spending time in the mountains. Corena’s cheerfulness and sincerity make her a natural at establishing and developing relationships with her clients. She is eager to take on new challenges and continue growing the Appliance Factory Brand!

Nicole Wilson
Account Manager

  Nicole started out in the retail store as a Sales manager before becoming an Account Manager for Appliance Factory Wholesale Distribution. 

 

   Prior to that, Nicole was a store manager of two retail stores and has worked her way up the ladder to management with various customer service positions for over 10 years.

 

   Nicole grew up in a small town in La Veta Colorado and has been a native since. In her spare time she enjoys working on cars, going to the race track, extreme couponing, and spending time with her two children Carson and Ava.

Ngoc Le
Sales Administrator

   Ngoc is an outstanding Sales Administrator and Office Manager whose passion, considerate nature, and dedication have all earned her the reputation as a purpose-driven professional. Deeply passionate about providing support and streamlining processes, there is nothing she finds more rewarding than seeing the individuals she has assisted thrive. In her present supporting role within the internal sales department of an esteemed multifamily appliance distributor, she helps Account Managers with various key tasks, including but not limited to creating customer accounts, taking orders, and receiving payments. Ngoc's eager to help out, loves a challenge, and will make sure you’re treated like one of the family.

 

   When she isn’t working, you can find Ngoc playing volleyball or spending quality time with her two Sharpeis, Buddy and Boba. Originally from Vietnam, she speaks Vietnamese fluently.

Brian Akin
Account Manager

   Brian started with Appliance Factory in the Spring of 2018 after moving to Colorado from Dallas, Texas. In October of that year, he joined the Multi-Family Department serving apartments in the Denver area. Before starting with Appliance Factory, Brian’s had various careers in the oil and gas industry, retail, and the ski and snowboarding industry.

   Brian attended school at Texas A&M and grew up in Fayetteville, NC. When not at work he loves to spend his time skiing, hiking, and playing with his dog Porkie.  

Sam Mitchell
Account Manager

   Sam has been with Appliance Factory for over 5 years and currently operates in the Colorado Springs and Pueblo territories.

   He has a degree in Avionics and a strong background in Retail and Restaurant Management.  Constantly striving to provide clients with prompt, professional service, he is dedicated to cultivating relationships and exceeding customers expectations.  In his free time he enjoys live music, rock climbing, mountain biking, and sending time with family.  

Leo Rangel
Parts Manager

   Leo has worked at Appliance factory for 7 years and has managed the parts dept since 2018. He's worked through the delivery and installation departments and is also trained in appliance repair. Leo's technical background enables him to help his customers and the coworkers around him. His dedication to the company and positive attitude has made him a vital member of the wholesale team. 

 

   Leo is a native of Mexico but has lived in Colorado since he was 1. He enjoys spending time with his wife and newborn son going camping, and hiking. He is also an avid fan of soccer. 

Justin Matthews
Account Manager

   Justin joined Appliance Factory in 2012 as an inventory and operations manager, and was offered the opportunity to help grow the burgeoning multi-family department.  He got to work quickly and began developing systems that we use every day. Justin's specialty is renovation projects - both large and small. He brings years of technical and operational knowledge to the table.  He takes great pride in helping solve challenges by looking at problems from a customer-forward approach.

 

   Justin grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and attended college at SUNY, in New York. He moved to Colorado in 2003 after meeting his wife, a Colorado Native, and realizing his fondness for the mountains. He spends his time-off enjoying hobbies such as above-treeline camping, mountain biking, sailing, and restoring antique furniture.  He also uses vital skills learned in college to aid in his favorite pastime, which is design and prototyping.

 

   Justin and his wife live in Olde Town Arvada with their two dogs.  You may catch them on a Jeep trail or enjoying a patio lunch at one of their favorite haunts.
